Church History

Imagine if you can, what it was like in those long ago days when Tyrone's ancestors traveled through the mountains and valleys of South-Western Pennsylvania. Perhaps as they journeyed over narrow paths, they would occasionally see an Native American settlement or would pass them walking along the tree-lined paths.

The first service was held under huge oak trees. Maybe when they chose the spot for their worship service, which we now call Tyrone Church, they looked ahead in their imaginations and visualized the enduring beauty of the spot where our church stands today.

The current congregation of Tyrone Presbyterian Church want to say "thank-you" to those early settlers and organizers of our church. Because of our forefather's fortitude and faithfulness, Tyrone Presbyterian Church carries on today in Christian love and mission throughout the community and world-wide service.

I sat in a country chapel
In a large seat all alone
My eyes wandered to a window
Where the light of a pale moon shone.

As I looked at the moonlit window
I beheld a beautiful scene
Of lovely moon kissed colors
Of red, gold, blue, and green.

Slowly the thought came to me
That the colors so rich and fine
Had not been done by man
But by the hand of God divine.

There in the country chapel
I bowed my head in prayer
And thanked God for the moonlit colors
So lovely, rich and fair.
