Pastor's Corner
It is The Year of our Lord, 2010! Is anyone else having a hard time writing that on your checks and other documents or am I the only one who has to keep crossing out the 2009 and rewriting 2010? It may take some time but we will all get used to it, probably just in time to start writing 2011. Before we let 2009 go completely we should take a few moments to consider and give thanks to God for all of the blessings we experienced as a congregation. The blessings were many but in particular I would like to give thanks for all of you who gave freely of your time and resources to further Gods kingdom and continue the ministry at Tyrone Church. My most vivid memory and perhaps the one that will stay with me the longest is the experience of our Homecoming celebration. On September 13, 2009 Tyrone Presbyterian Church celebrated two hundred and thirty five years of ministry. It was a wonderful celebration of worship, entertainment, and food, I feel blessed that God allowed me to be your pastor at this moment in time to celebrate with you.
As we begin another new year and start to consider what new and exciting ministries we will accomplish together it is encouraging to realize that some of what we accomplished in the past is still being recognized today. By the time you receive this newsletter and have the chance to read this article Tyrone Church will have already received a Peace Making Award from the Synod of the Presbyterian Church. On January 23, at the Redstone Presbytery meeting at West Hempfield Presbyterian Church we will receive this award along with a three hundred dollar check for our efforts in 2008 when we held a carnival for the communities, passed out school supplies, and then gave shoes to needy children in our area. This mission was a huge undertaking for our small church and it was done out of love for our Savior and a deep concern for those around us who have such basic needs. It was never our intention to draw attention to ourselves but it is nice to know that others have noticed our efforts, not so that we can take pride in our accomplishments but instead so that we can be reminded of what we are capable of when we work together and give our best efforts. God blesses what we willingly and unselfishly do in His name.
This is a new year with a new set of challenges. We cannot and should not rest on what we have achieved in the past. January is almost over and the Lenten season is drawing near and as always it will be a very busy time, but a wonderful time of ministry. There are many plans in the works, we are planning a Lenten Bible Study with new devotional books that can be used everyday during Lent. Even if you cant attend class you can enrich your soul by reading and studying the devotional daily. As Im sure you have heard by now Tri-Town Ministries is planning a big event during the Lenten season. We have invited the Reverent Roy Gearhart and his wife Janice to come and lead special worship services for five consecutive evenings, Feb. 28 through March 4. Most of you will remember them from our Homecoming celebration program. Roy will be portraying a different biblical character each night and proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ as only he can. This is a wonderful opportunity to expose our friends, relatives, and neighbors to the reality of who Jesus is and give them a chance to experience Him for themselves. We have been very active as a church giving people access to many things that they need to sustain their physical lives, here is an opportunity to share something with them that will save their eternal souls. This could be the most important invitation that you will ever give. Please pray that God will draw the multitudes to these services, make a list and pray for everyone that you know who does not know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and then do your part, tell them about the services, invite them to come. This is not just another request its a call to duty, to your responsibility as a follower of Jesus. Matthew 28: 19; Go therefore and make disciples of all nations. Im not asking you to travel abroad but Jesus commands us to bring others to Him. How much easier could it be than inviting them to church?
A very important closing note: Realizing that this will be on our web page and that there may be many who for what ever reason view this message I would like to give you this very important word from God. God loves you! He loves you so much that He sent His Son Jesus Christ into the world so that He might have a relationship with you. There is so much more that I would love to share with you. My contact information is on this website and I would love to talk to or visit with you and share what I know about the love of God and His plan for your life. I will always make time, this is an open invitation please except it.
In Christs Love and Peace
